Dear Editor,
Mr. Christopher Ram and others have raised the matter that the National Insurance Board has failed to pay the minimum old-age pension in accordance with the “NIS Benefit Regulations.” As it happens, I am one of those pensioners.
The Regulations require that the minimum pension paid must not be less than half (50%) of the Public Service minimum wage. However, the Public Service minimum wage has increased since 2021 but the minimum old-age pension has not accordingly increased as required with the Regulations.
For me, it seems a simple enough matter to fix, and the National Insurance Board should take immediate steps to do so. It should not have been necessary for this matter to have gone to Court.
