Dear Editor,
The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), through its President, Mr. Bissoondyal Singh, executives, and staff, extends heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Mr. Malcolm Peters on the remarkable occasion of his 90th birthday.
Born in Wakenaam, Essequibo, in 1936, Mr. Peters’ journey is one of dedication, perseverance, exemplary leadership, and an enduring commitment to the development and administration of cricket in Guyana.
In 1955, while still in his late teens, he relocated to Linden to take up employment with the bauxite company. His professional journey subsequently took him to Berbice in 1971, where he represented the Bermine Cricket Club at the First Division level.
His passion for cricket extended well beyond the boundary ropes. Through years of dedicated involvement in the administration of the sport, Mr. Peters was eventually elected President of the Berbice Cricket Board, where he contributed significantly to the advancement of cricket in the county.
His leadership and experience earned him further national responsibilities, including serving as Vice-President of the Guyana Cricket Board from 2006 to 2009 and Chairman of the National Cricket Development Committee. He also represented Guyana on several occasions at the West Indies Cricket Board.
Mr. Peters played an important role in the governance and constitutional development of Guyana’s cricket. He served as a member of the Stakeholders Committee, chaired by the legendary Sir Clive Lloyd, which contributed to the formulation of the Guyana Cricket Administration Bill tabled in Parliament in 2012[1].
In 2021, he was elected National Cricket Ombudsman[2], a distinguished position he continues to hold, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the principles of fairness, accountability, and good governance within the sport.
At 90 years of age, Mr. Peters stands as a remarkable example of lifelong service. His contribution spans generations of cricketers, administrators, and institutions, leaving an enduring legacy in the development and governance of Guyana’s cricket.
President Bissoondyal Singh, on behalf of the executives and staff of the Guyana Cricket Board, salutes Mr. Malcolm Peters for his invaluable contribution to the sport and expresses profound appreciation for his decades of distinguished service.
As we celebrate this extraordinary milestone, we honor not only his longevity but also a lifetime devoted to strengthening the game we all cherish.
