Dear Editor,
The residents of Lamaha Gardens have noted that the Government of Guyana wants to continue the destruction of green in these times of climate change by engaging in outdated technologies supposedly to improve ‘parking’ by destroying parapets, some of which have trees which provide shade.
Residents of Subryanville also noted surveyors who said that the Government was intending to destroy the parapets. A request through the CitizensConnectApp for information and for consultation with residents has not been answered.
Anyone passing through Subryanville will see that people are parking on the green parapets, making use of the shade of flamboyant trees planted by a previous incarnation of the Mayor and City Council. One or two residents comfortably leave trucks and other items for long periods on the parapets, with the support of the Government which probably sees this as development.
Cities around the world are replacing stone, concrete with mud and grass. Cities are planting trees and finding ways to nurture them, not destroy them as seems to be happening in Georgetown. Why is the Government of Guyana not looking at contemporary urban planning, and resisting climate change? Why is the Government of Guyana also not accounting to residents with the scientific and technical reasoning for its destruction of green spaces in Guyana?
