Dear Editor,
Reference is made to the letter in yesterday’s Stabroek Newspaper dated Friday December 5, 2025, authored by Mr. Alfred Khan.
The National Insurance Scheme (NIS) acknowledges the concerns expressed regarding the timing of pension payments made through the commercial banks. We appreciate every opportunity to clarify our processes and to reassure our pensioners of our continued commitment to timely and efficient service.
Please be advised that bank remittances are not delayed as is suggested by the writer but are in fact sent in advance to ensure that pensioners receive their benefits on time.
For example: December 2025 pension payment was remitted to the banks on November 22, 2025, well ahead of the December 1st due date.
Similarly, January 2026 pension payment will be sent to the banks on December 22, 2025, to ensure it is available on January 2, 2026.
This advance payment system is designed specifically to prevent delays and to allow banks sufficient time to process and credit accounts according to their internal cycles.
NIS remains committed to improving delivery service and will continue to work closely with all banking partners to ensure that pensioners receive their benefits promptly and reliably.
We thank our pensioners for their feedback and encourage them to contact the Scheme should they require further clarification or assistance.
